  1. Made a new bag this morning. I'm pretty terrible at sewing (and this is super obvious on the handles) but I'm happy with the end product: a solid beach bag.

  2. Some fiddlehead tempura I made last week, I ate all of it.

  3. & 4. New favourite cookbook, he is the best. 

Big plans for a collaborative summer zine and garage sale! 
Weather is matching my mood. :-)

still here

On the way to SF, 2010.

It might be beach season, which might mean I should start something resembling an exercise routine; especially because I woke up this morning and immediately made strawberry cake*, and ate it after a separate breakfast; and especially because Will**, not 30 seconds ago, just brought me back the best pasta, cheese and flatbread from La Ghianda - I'm almost annoyed at how good everything from that place is.

* I halved the recipe and used 1/4 cup almond meal in place of flour; baked in small tart pans. 
** Uncle Will as of today!

Speaking of coffee shops in the previous post,
I have some serious international coffee house envy. 

Coffee must taste so much better at places like these.

eat & eat & eat

On Friday I was stricken with some mystery stomach illness: couldn't get out of bed, couldn't look at moving objects without feeling nauseous, and worst of all, had zero appetite. If I did eat, it was plain juk and nothing else (except I put in lots of ginger, garlic and lime leaves, don't tell my mom). 

Four days later, mystery bug still unsolved. But now that I can stand up without clutching my stomach, and eat regular foods without adverse tummy reactions, I've mostly been in the kitchen. More relaxing than sitting in a coffee shop, and more rewarding than lying in bed all day!

In order:
  • risotto; asparagus, king oyster mushrooms, roasted tomatoes 
  • oatmeal; strawberries, rhubarb, Balkan-style yoghurt (the best)
  • these cookies are so good
  • tarts for dinner; improvised puff pastry, goat cheese, egg, roasted tomatoes, arugula; & the best broccoli
  • "crackers" from leftover pastry

This freak cooking streak also helped me decide to write/illustrate a children's cookbook, maybe this summer. Maybe even just a little zine. Excited!

Lunar New Year thank you card I made a few months ago. Changed the header, too, I think I'm channeling my inner rabbit for good luck. 


My program's officially and completely OVER. 
It's been a ridiculous year; but it feels really good to want to pursue something you sat in a classroom to learn about (that period where I wanted to rehabilitate orangutans in Borneo after taking a few primatology classes didn't count).
